Haters Gonna Hate

Whelp there it is, the Elephant in the Room. It’s just chilling, don’t mind it. Kidding, we’re going to address that Elephant – come on you should know me better than that by now.

The last time I shared something about my – wait for it… conservative views (gasp)…I became the topic of a Mankato Mom’s Blog site. I then wrote about that experience and how I am not a feminist and my blog post was featured in a local online newspaper. The comments were entertaining to say the least. I was a little busy over the past 5 months during the Legislative Session, but now that I’ve fully recovered from those shenanigans I’ve decided to return to writing. But before I get down to it, I need to address the Elephant in the room. Cue Taylor Swift because it’s time to address the haters.

Everyone grows and changes as they grow older, but one lesson that I have had to learn repeatedly is that the opinions of others should not dictate my beliefs. For those of you who may be wondering why I am addressing the haters let me catch you up to speed – I am a conservative, female small business owner who is happily married to her husband of nearly 5 years – but above all I am a follower of Jesus.  That last part should answer any question you may have had.

So why even address them? Why not just ignore them?

Both of those are great questions. But in a world that is screaming “women stand up and use your voice”, I don’t find remaining silent because of my beliefs to be what God is calling me to do – nor do I find it particularly helpful. In fact, I’d even be so bold as to say that the reason we have arrived at this place in history, is because far too many have remained seated after being slammed into a chair by the liberal minded majority.

Now, let me be clear. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs – this is after all America right? That is what I am told when I express a less than popular belief of mine – for example that I am Pro-Life. The point of this Blog Post is to acknowledge that indeed we are all free to form our own opinion and yes that comes with the realization that some are not going to have the same opinion and in fact will more than likely take the time to share their own opinion about why yours is wrong. It won’t take long after I hit the “publish” button and share it on my Facebook Page affiliated with this blog before the haters will arrive. Following my Editorial in the Mankato Times I was quickly “diagnosed” with a number of issues via the Facebook Psychiatrists and Biblical Scholars. Here are a few gems:

“I can say she has completely violated 1st Timothy 2:11-17 for anyone who cares to dig into what ‘god’ says about women. She might want to ‘rethink’ who has her back.”

“Her response speaks more so to which side of the historical power structure and privilege your own response is hinged upon.”

Here’s my favorite:

“This blog is where I read all that other fragile-ego nonsense.”

And this ladies and gentlemen is how I arrived at this Blog Post. Here’s the deal. Picture Julie Andrews on top of the mountain in the movie “The Sound of Music”, her arms open as she twirls around in a circle. Now that you have that visual pretend that’s me swirling about carefree as I refuse to adhere to any of the lines people want to lay down for me to toe.

I’m not going to make myself miserable and go against my deeply held convictions which align with the Bible – to make other people feel comfortable. I’m not going to apologize for being a follower of Jesus. And I’m certainly not going to take a seat at the table the left has prepared so I can eat a meal consisting of PETA approved entrees in a room full of those who seek a judgement free zone, while they spew forth judgement on those who have conservative values – Although if you’re interested in that sort of thing you can certainly attend the Burton Dinner.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because you don’t agree with mine or others like me, does not mean that conservatives are “homophobic” or have a “fragile ego”. I can certainly open my own door, but I enjoy chivalry. I can certainly change my own tire, but I like when my husband does it. I can certainly have conservative views while supporting women.

I’m going to press “Publish” now. If you disagree with me that’s fine, but I won’t change my ways. If you seek to destroy my business by defaming me all over town for my conservative views, so be it. But this world is not my home, I’m just passing through. So cheers to all my haters. Haters gonna hate but I’m a female, conservative, follower of Jesus and I’m still going to give it to you straight.
